Nursing Students and Instructors - Onboarding and Orientation

Nursing Students
Complete as instructed by your clinical coordinator through Clinical Placements Northwest (CPNW) annually:
- Submit to school coordinator your Clinical Passport supporting documents
- Complete CPNW self-learning modules
Swedish nursing student orientation consists of three parts:
- Online Education to be completed prior to your Classroom Orientation date. This will take several hours to complete and can be done using most devices and internet platforms.
- Orientation Learning Modules education modules to be completed prior to your Classroom Orientation date. This will take several hours to complete.
- Classroom Orientation will be arranged between your school's nursing Instructor and Swedish Academic Affiliations.

- Operating Room Orientation (your instructor will arrange this)
Nursing instructors only: Review the Instructor Orientation and Resources to complete your additional orientation requirements.
If you have received notice of your account being disabled due to inactivity, please follow the steps below:
- If you are on campus at any of the Swedish or Providence facilities, log into the computer using your network login (no "s." for your ID).
- If you are returning for another clinical rotation, you will need to call the AskIT Service Desk (phone number in the deactivation email) to have your account reactivated. Once reactivated, you can log in as normal. If you do not remember your password, you may reset it on the Caregiver Access Portal.

Log in with your Providence Network LoginID followed by "@providence.org" (example: firstname.lastname@providence.org) and password created. Access the Epic training for Nursing Students and complete the Inpatient Nursing Units content.
Click on the following link for the Epic Training Attestation Form and confirm that you completed the required Epic training for your rotation.
You will not receive credit for completing Epic training without your written confirmation and your access will be deactivated one week after start date.

If you are going to Labor & Delivery or Emergency Department for senior practicum please note there is additional training in the Epic training site linked above.
If you are going to an outpatient/ambulatory clinic, complete the following Epic training for nursing students.
- Completion of the Online Orientation Evaluation form will allow us to improve this site and/or validate its continued support. Specific comments are particularly helpful if you have suggestions for improvement. Every evaluation is read.
- Print the Clinical Objectives Communication form and cut in half along the dotted line.
- Complete form and give it to the RN(s) you are assigned to work with (a new form each day).
- Not required for students in final quarter of school and assigned to a staff nurse preceptor. But, it does have a list of interventions nursing students may not perform for your information.
- Identification Badges: Swedish does not provide identification badges for students. You are to wear your school photo identification badge when in clinical. ID is to be worn and visible (not carried in a pocket) at all times while at a Swedish facility.

Complete through Clinical Placements Northwest (CPNW) annually:
- Submit to school coordinator your Clinical Passport supporting documents
- Complete CPNW self-learning modules
- As an instructor at Swedish, you are required to complete the same orientation as the students in addition to reading the instructor material
- Onboarding and online orientation modules are to be completed prior to any classroom orientation provided by Swedish and prior to students arriving on campus for their clinical experience
- Provide students direction on which additional modules to complete during their online orientation pertinent to the skills they will be practicing or unit/specialty assigned to
- Complete the "All Students and Faculty Orientation" in the Students section above (returning instructors review this information annually)
- Meet your units' manager(s) and spend time shadowing a nurse on your units
- Send student schedules to the clinical managers (hard copy) and studentonboarding@swedish.org (electronic) prior to students’ arrival on the units
- Return (by fax or in person) the Nursing Student Pyxis™ MedStation Access form, signed by each student, to campus pharmacy. Allow for at least a 24 hour business day turn around.
