Specialized Programs

Some conditions call for specialized expertise. From pelvic pain to endometriosis and incontinence, our specialized gynecologic (GYN) programs bring focused care to conditions that are often overlooked.

Our urogynecologists treat urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, recurrent UTIs, painful intercourse and more. Care begins with a thorough evaluation of your history and symptoms, and an exam followed by a personalized treatment plan. Options range from pelvic floor retraining and physical therapy to minimally invasive reconstructive surgery — always guided by your symptoms and goals.

Patients often form close relationships with their surgeons and oncologists, and that connection enhances both the experience and the outcomes.

What sets our program apart is the team that cares for you: specialists who collaborate closely, consult quickly and stay connected to your care as it evolves. Many of our physicians and nurses have practiced together for years – the kind of continuity that shows up in your care. Our residency program brings an added layer of academic rigor and oversight that keeps our standards high.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is one of the most effective treatments in gynecologic care. Our physical therapists work alongside your gynecologic care team to address leakage, pelvic pain, prolapse, painful intercourse and recovery after gynecologic surgery. Treatment is hands-on, individualized and grounded in evidence. Many patients see meaningful improvement after just a few sessions, and if surgery has been recommended, physical therapy may also be an important part of your preparation and recovery.

Many women wait years to raise these concerns, often after being dismissed elsewhere. At the Providence Swedish Women’s Health Institute, you don't have to wait. Our team approaches sexual health with the same directness and respect we bring to every visit.

Choosing the Right Gynecologic Care

Gynecologic care looks different at every stage of life. Whether you're due for a routine visit, managing a specific condition or navigating something new, here's how to find the right starting point.

Annual wellness exams, Pap smears, HPV and STI screening and family planning are the foundation of gynecologic health – and a good reason to establish care even when nothing feels wrong. If you're new to the area, looking for a doctor or simply overdue for a visit, our integrated team of gynecologists, specialists and advanced registered nurse practitioners is easy to reach across multiple Puget Sound locations.

Heavy or irregular periods, pelvic pain, painful intercourse and hormonal changes are worth talking about, even if you've been told they're normal. Our team takes these symptoms seriously, asks the right questions and offers real treatment options. Care may include medication, minimally invasive procedures or referral to a specialist – always based on your symptoms, your history and what works for your life.

Unusual discharge, postmenopausal bleeding, recurrent UTIs or sudden pelvic pain are examples of symptoms that warrant prompt attention. Some resolve quickly with straightforward treatment, and others need further evaluation. Our team can assess your symptoms, identify the cause and quickly find you the right care, including same-day appointments at many of our locations when symptoms are urgent.

If you're thinking about starting a family, preconception care is a valuable first step. We offer counseling on optimizing your health before pregnancy, carrier screening and basic fertility workups. And if you've been trying to conceive without success, we can help you decide on the next steps and refer you to a reproductive specialist when needed.
