The Addiction Recovery Services program at Swedish offers compassionate care to people with substance use disorders. We strive to offer whole person care for all people, wherever they are in their journey with addiction. Our services include:

  • Substance Using Pregnant People Program (SUPP) – Ballard (Under 36w gestation), First Hill (Above 36w gestation)
  • Labor and delivery for pregnant people with substance use disorders: First Hill
  • Inpatient withdrawal management services – Ballard
  • Outpatient addiction medicine services – Ballard
  • Outreach Perinatal Clinic at  Swedish Family Medicine – Cherry Hill
  • Inpatient addiction consultation – First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard and Edmonds

People who have a physical dependence on a substance may experience withdrawal when they attempt to stop. Alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines are among the substances that most commonly cause withdrawal symptoms that lead people to seek medical care. In some cases, it is safest and more comfortable for a person to have their withdrawal process medically supervised in the hospital setting.

At the Swedish Addiction Recovery Services inpatient program, a team of physicians, nurses, and counselors support people through withdrawal while helping plan for ongoing treatment in the outpatient setting. Withdrawal management occurs in private hospital rooms with 24/7 nursing care. Our medical teams are able to manage withdrawal in people over the age of 18, including those with complex medical conditions.

We accept private insurance for non-pregnant inpatient withdrawal management services. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, please call to discuss options for inpatient withdrawal management services.

Our doctors offer consultation services for hospitalized adults and adolescents with substance use disorders. We offer a compassionate approach to managing pain and other stressors that are common during hospitalization. Among our services, we facilitate the initiation of medications for opioid use disorder, including methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone).

We can also assist with planning substance use disorder treatment after people are discharged from the hospital. The Hospitalist doctors at Swedish hospitals including First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Edmonds can request a consult from our addiction medicine team.
