Swedish cares about the health and well-being of our patients, caregivers and community. In light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) public health emergency, Swedish is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our facilities and our ability to care for as many patients as possible. Safety is our top priority.

Your classroom location (including virtual) will be provided to you in a confirmation email. Please carefully check the directions to the campus and the classroom prior to each class.

Cancer

The Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) offers free programs for patients, family, friends, caregivers and the community to help the mind, body, and spirit to heal. For questions or feedback, please contact the Cancer Education Center; call 206-386-3200 or send us an email.

Diabetes

Wellness resources and additional educational programs offered at Swedish Diabetes Education Center

Prediabetes (Diabetes Prevention)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 3 Americans age 20 years or older, and half of all people 65 years or older have prediabetes. This class held via Zoom will help you understand your risk factors and explains how to significantly lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes with realistic approaches to your lifestyle, diet and physical activity.

Gentle Yoga

Classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds on the 4th Floor, Mondays, 5:15-6:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).

This easy alternative to regular yoga utilizes a chair for help in transitioning to and from the floor, and for certain exercises. New patients please come to class 5 minutes early for first session.

Fee: $15/class or $130 for a 10 class card, payable in class by check or cash only.

Lifestyle Management

Classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds.

This is a medically supervised exercise and education program for individuals living with, or at risk of developing heart disease. Individuals with heart disease, diabetes/prediabetes and high blood pressure or cholesterol will benefit from the program, which focuses on controlling risk factors and making positive lifestyle changes. Hours are flexible.

Fee: $90 for 16 Sessions

Therapeutic Flow Yoga

Classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds on the 4th Floor, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:45-5 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Yoga provides stress relief, exercise, stretching and strengthening, balance and peace of mind. For beginning and intermediate students. New patients please come to class 5 minutes early for first session.

Pain and Beyond

Classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds by appointment only, Fridays 3-4 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.

This class teaches coping techniques for people with pain-limiting conditions. Topics include an overview of the anatomy and physiology of pain, stress management, pacing, goal setting and logging, home therapies, nutrition and supplements, and hope, happiness and healing. Guided imagery, relaxation and gentle exercise are also covered.

Fee: $10/ per class

Preoperative Joint Seminar (scheduled surgery)

This one-hour seminar will inform you about what to expect before surgery, during your hospital stay and for the first several weeks after surgery. This class will include recommendations on how to prepare your home for a comfortable recovery. This class is strongly recommended for patients scheduled to have a joint replacement surgery at Swedish Issaquah or the Swedish Orthopedic Institute (Downtown Seattle).

Parenting

Growing Up: All About Puberty

This class provides a perfect opportunity to build a bridge with your 9- to 12-year-old to demystify the challenges of puberty. The focus of this fun, interactive class is to open and enhance communication between parents and preteens and explain the physical and emotional changes ahead. Taught in partnership with Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.

Fee: $35 per family (includes one child and up to two adults.)

Safety

CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers

This course is designed to provide healthcare providers working in and out of a wide variety of hospital settings the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  Participant certifications are valid for two years.

**This class provides both INITIAL and RENEWAL BLS Certification requirements for health care providers.**

Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED

Learn how to save a life using proper first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR techniques for adults, children and infants. Participant certifications are valid for two years.

The TQI Diet
