Pulmonology

Lung disease is one of the most common health problems in the US today. Infectious diseases, smoking, allergies, indoor and outdoor pollution, and on-the-job exposure to pulmonary irritants all play a significant role in the development of chronic lung disease.

Our pulmonary specialists are highly experienced in diagnosing and treating acute illness due to asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. With the help of sophisticated tests, including MRIs, bronchoscopies, and CT and nuclear scans, we can diagnose diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis and lung cancer early on. This greatly improves our ability to provide effective treatment.

Our pulmonologists also are board-certified in intensive care medicine. This allows them to work closely with cardiologists, infectious disease specialists and vascular, general and thoracic surgeons to coordinate the specialized care that has greatly improved survival rates in our community.

The LAM Foundation has designated Swedish as one of just 19 LAM (Lymphangioleiomyomatosis) clinics in the nation.

This designation is based on Swedish’s ability to accurately diagnose and treat this rare lung disease and its many complications. Swedish is equipped to do this because of its deep, experienced staff of pulmonologists, radiologists, pathologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, and a specialized team of respiratory therapists, nutritionists and physical therapists.
