What are the prominent mental issues facing children?
Mental illness knows no age barriers. It can happen to any one at any age. Indeed, one in five children struggle with mental health conditions such as anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and a variety of social challenges.
The first signs of mental health issues arise during preschool or kindergarten. During this phase of life, it quickly becomes apparent if a child is struggling. Signs such as:
- Sudden behavioral changes (e.g. random outbursts)
- Uncharacteristic episodes of anger or frustration
- Declining grades or inability to focus
- Isolation from friends
- Disruptions in sleeping, eating or hygiene habits
If you observe these types of behaviors in your child or a child under your care, contact your provider to determine the best course of action.
