About Johnny Y. Shum
Dr. Shum has been interested in serving underserved populations since medical school. This interest in health care disparities led him to spend time at several federally qualified community health centers in and around South Florida. There, he learned how important patient advocacy, coordination of care, communication, and cultural competency can influence patient outcomes. This interest continued throughout his time at UW Medicine | Valley Medical Center where he completed his residency in family medicine and practiced medicine for 7 years before joining Swedish Sand Point Primary Care. Dr. Shum practices full spectrum family medicine and has a special interest in serving the LGBTQ+ community, pediatrics, dermatology, and men’s health. In his free time, he enjoys working on & restoring his 100+ year old home, gardening, baking, and spending time with close friends and family.

This was a new Group, a new location, a new doctor. Finding Parking was a nightmare, but staff described arrangement next door. Doctor was friendly, introduced himself, his background, invited me to do likewise. He gave me an adequate brief exam, ordered blood tests and re-prescribed necessary Thyroid and Eliquis prescriptions that were due. I was impressed that he noticed the Squamous Cell Carcinoma surgery scar on my left tibia, asking if I'd had surgery on it. (Just glancing at it, or maybe having read my chart--MOS surgery in 2020 still healing--he recognized it as relevant. I'd had a GP in 2020 who diagnosed it as a skin infection and prescribed an antibiotic. The Swedish Wound Clinic just looked at it, told me "That's Cancer!" go to a Dermatologist now!) I like, respect and trust my new doctor and will contact him about a concern related to that.

Firstly, I had to answer "no" in the office staff and clerks section because my appointment was virtual and I was not in the office to be greeted or checked in. However, the office staff and clerks are usually pretty wonderful.Secondly and most importantly. I can't say enough nice things about Johnny! He is so wonderful, he listens and has a calm demeanor.
