Joanna Poceta, MD

I was born in Encinitas, CA, moved to Providence RI for college, then San Francisco for a bit, then to Washington DC for medical school - and now am thrilled to have made another coastal move to Seattle for family medicine residency! My background prior to medicine was in philosophy and then I spent a few years doing community organizing around access to HIV and hepatitis C testing and treatment. I'm passionate about harm reduction and am interested in addiction medicine as part of my family medicine training. I also care deeply about reproductive health and justice and plan to provide comprehensive reproductive care in my future practice. I love training at Swedish because of its focus on full-spectrum family medicine, strong Ob experiences, leadership in LGBQTI+ care, and the wonderful providers and staff who work at First Hill. Outside of work I'm usually reading a novel, riding my bike/dreaming about a future bike tour, learning to backcountry ski or hanging out on a dock at Lake Washington.
