Lisa Shire has been working to help families have positive birth experiences as a certified doula since 2012. She first became interested in labor assistance over 20 years ago when she was asked to attend the birth of a family member. She was amazed at the time by what an exciting, beautiful and important event giving birth could be. Since then, she has had a passion for all things birth related. She trained to be a doula at the Bastyr University Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations and earned her birth doula certification from DONA International. Lisa is also a Certified Lactation Educator and received her training through Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care with Evergreen Perinatal. She has been trained in Spinning Babies for childbirth and fetal positioning and is Certified with Body Ready Method. Lisa’s knack and enthusiasm for birth has inspired her to take additional, advanced doula training courses, including Acupressure for labor, Rebozo use for labor comfort and baby repositioning, T.E.N.S. (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) for pain management in labor, placenta encapsulation, and Great Starts’ Childbirth Educator training. Lisa strives to give all of her clients non-judgmental support and believes in giving individualized care based on her clients’ needs and desires. Her goal is to help the family have a safe and satisfying childbirth as they define it. Lisa has experience and enjoys working with first time and repeat parents, families conceiving through In Vitro Fertilization, vaginal birth after cesarean, high and low risk pregnancies, same sex couples, teens, over 40, medicated, non-medicated and planned cesarean clients. Lisa grew up in West Seattle and now lives in Issaquah with her husband, and two children. When not working with clients, she loves to read, hike, ski, camp with her family, and volunteer at her kid’s schools. Available at Swedish First Hill and Swedish Issaquah
