Providence Swedish Amyloidosis Center of Excellence
Expert Care for Cardiac Amyloidosis
The Cardiac Amyloidosis Clinic at Swedish Cherry Hill Campus provides specialized evaluation and ongoing care for people with suspected or confirmed amyloid involvement of the heart. As part of the John L. Locke Jr. Advanced Cardiac Support Program, our team combines advanced heart-failure expertise with a clear diagnostic and treatment pathway for both major causes of cardiac amyloidosis — transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) and immunoglobulin light-chain amyloidosis (AL).
Our Approach
Amyloidosis occurs when misfolded proteins build up in tissues; in the heart, these deposits can make the heart muscle stiff and lead to heart failure symptoms. Our specialists diagnose and treat both transthyretin (ATTR) cardiac amyloidosis — including wild-type and hereditary forms — and immunoglobulin light-chain (AL) cardiac amyloidosis, with each patient receiving a personalized plan based on amyloid type, disease stage, heart function, symptoms and other organs involved. Because amyloidosis can affect more than the heart, we coordinate closely with hematology-oncology, neurology, genetics and other specialists so you receive expert, connected care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your first visit typically includes a review of your symptoms, medical and family history, prior records and medications. Depending on your evaluation, we may order blood and urine testing, cardiac biomarkers, an electrocardiogram with cardiac rhythm monitoring, an echocardiogram (including global longitudinal strain), cardiac MRI or SPECT imaging. In some cases, a tissue biopsy with amyloid typing is needed to confirm the diagnosis.
If ATTR is diagnosed, we also offer TTR genetic testing, with counseling and family screening when appropriate.
Treatment is personalized based on your amyloid type, disease stage, heart function and other organs involved. For ATTR, this may include disease-modifying therapy such as a TTR stabilizer or gene-silencing therapy when clinically appropriate. For suspected or confirmed AL amyloidosis, we partner closely with hematology-oncology at the Swedish Cancer Institute.
Across both types, we provide heart-failure management, treatment of atrial fibrillation and other rhythm problems, anticoagulation and device therapy when indicated, and assessment for advanced heart-failure therapies or clinical trials when appropriate.
If your insurance provider requires a referral, your doctor will need to send one to our office. Once we receive the referral, we'll contact you to schedule an appointment.
