Over eight years his service took him around the world, from the East coast of the US, to Afghanistan and Japan, and finally to the Naval hospital here in Bremerton, WA. During his tour in Okinawa, Japan he served as the department head of a multidisciplinary clinic that focused on the treatment of service members with traumatic experiences, often coupled with traumatic brain injury (TBI). He then deployed to Afghanistan as part of a larger trauma hospital team where he served as the head of the mental health clinic and the sole psychiatrist for US forces in country. Over the years, Dr. Fugate has worked in several different clinical roles providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency psychiatric care. Dr. Fugate is available for the treatment of most psychiatric conditions but has particular interest in the areas of post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and adult ADHD. He believes in a multi-faceted approach to care and will often recommend elements of lifestyle modification, nutrition/supplementation, mindfulness and mind-body practices, in addition to prescription medication. He emphasizes a collaborative treatment approach, involving the patient and the entire healthcare team to optimize treatment efficacy and quality of care.
