Apprentice Doula

Professional Statement

Cecil completed birth doula training through Bastyr University’s Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations in March 2017. Their work as a doula is grounded in their feminism and a deep commitment to health and reproductive justice. Cecil believes wholeheartedly that every person who becomes pregnant deserves a doula, whether or not pregnancy and birth lead them to parenting, however their bodies look and function, and whatever their gender and family structure. They seek to create space for clients to be authentic and whole as they navigate the vulnerabilities of pregnancy and birth, and respond to clients’ needs without hesitation or judgement. Cecil welcomes all pregnancy and birth experiences, and has particular passion around working with LGBTQ individuals and families. They’re also passionate about helping to improve access to doula care by offering low- and no-cost services to those who need it, both through their private practice and as a volunteer doula with Open Arms Perinatal Services. They have additional training in acupressure, breast/chestfeeding, and hypnobirthing, and also offer placenta encapsulation. Cecil comes to birth work from a health research and teaching background, and holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Washington. Outside of birth work, Cecil enjoys creating art, playing in the garden, and organizing in their community. They live in White Center with their partner, cat, and two wonderful housemates. Rate: $500
