Position description and requirements

The Research Associate position is a full-time, salaried and benefited position for recent college graduates interested in health sciences. This opportunity provides 12 months of paid research experience commencing the beginning of July each year. Requirements for the position includes completion of a 4-year degree with consideration of opportunities in health care, either clinical, policy or pure research. View testimonials of the program.

research associate with leadersEach Research Associate is responsible for generating research ideas, as well as developing and conducting clinical research in conjunction with the program leaders. Each Research Associate is allocated one to two primary quantitative and/or qualitative research projects and are also assigned other research commitments. Each Associate is expected to prepare their research and submit an abstract for presentation to at least one major national meeting during the year. Research resources include: full-time hands-on mentorship, weekly research meetings, as well as access to a biostatistical support.  

The Research Associates are also fully integrated into the Departments of Interventional Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery by presenting their research at both Divisional and Departmental research meetings; and by attending resident/fellow teaching conferences, swallowing conferences, Journal Clubs, morbidity and mortality meetings, tumor board discussions and hand-over rounds. They are also given the opportunity to shadow clinicians and clinical care. 

The Research Interns and Associates from this program have proceeded to medical schools, public health programs, basic science laboratories, nurse practitioner programs and clinical research coordinator programs across the country, expanding the cycle of clinical research and discovery.
