What does depression feel like?

Depression can cause a wide array of feelings, but it is often characterized by:

  • Sadness
  • Apathy and loss of interest in activities
  • Changes in sleep 
  • Changes in appetite (weight gain or loss)
  • Low energy
  • Poor concentration
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Suicidal thoughts
