Allergy Testing and Diagnosis
During your initial visit, your physician will review your health history, your family’s health history and your symptoms. Next, a skin-prick or blood test will be done to diagnose your allergy symptoms. Skin testing is the most common and reliable way to test for allergies, and it’s relatively painless.
When allergen avoidance and medications do not control your allergy symptoms, your physician may recommend immunotherapy. Immunotherapy builds up blocking antibodies by repeated exposure to allergens. Through shots or oral drops, your doctor can reduce your body's response to the allergen, or eliminate symptoms altogether. This in turn can eliminate the need for medication and future treatment.
