  • Physicians (MD/DO)

  • Physician Assistants (PA-C)

  • Podiatrists (DPM)

  • Dentists (DMD/DDS)

  • Nurse Practitioners

If you are interested in arranging a shadowing experience with a Nurse (RN) or Allied Health Professional (e.g., medical assistant, radiology technician, physical therapist, audiologist), please contact the Swedish Clinical Education team: StudentOnboarding@swedish.org.

A few things to note:

  • Swedish GME does not provide placements. Please search for a provider to precept through our provider listing:  https://www.swedish.org/swedish-physicians

  • Persons under the age of 18 are not allowed to do an observership. Instead, please contact Volunteer Services.

OBSERVERS - US

Swedish Medical Center offers Observerships: one per person per academic year (July 1 – June 30); up to 40 hours per academic year; ideally completed within 30 days of a start date.

Please read the Swedish Medical Center US Observer Policy and Procedures.

Swedish GME does NOT provide placements with providers.  In order to engage a Preceptor (i.e., the physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner you plan to shadow), please visit www.swedish.org/physicians to find a provider, and contact their office directly.

NOTE: This process applies to Swedish employees or members of a Swedish-affiliated program or team seeking a career development opportunity.  (Shadowing as part of job duties is mandated by the person’s manager, and GME Clearance is not needed.)

Once a provider is engaged, complete a Preceptor Agreement together, and submit to GMEOnboarding@swedish.org.  Make sure that we get a working, active email address for you, the applicant.  Please submit your completed Agreement as soon as possible, but no later than three weeks before a proposed start date.

You will receive an email communication instructing you to complete an Onboarding Checklist, which will request the remainder of Required Documents/Confirmations. Please complete this Onboarding Checklist as soon as possible, but no later than one week of receipt.

If you are interested in arranging a shadowing experience with a nurse (RN) or Allied Health Professional (e.g., medical assistant, radiology technician, physical therapist, audiologist, etc.), please contact the Swedish Clinical Education team: StudentOnboarding@swedish.org

OBSERVERS - INTERNATIONAL INVITED GUESTS

Swedish Medical Center provides an opportunity for international healthcare professionals to observe with a medical staff member at Swedish Medical Center (SMC) and Swedish Medical Group (SMG) sites.  An observership is a prearranged time, designed to provide a not-for-credit learning experience for an international invited guest. This Observership assumes that you have an established relationship with your Preceptor, who has agreed to your shadowing experience.

Please read the International Invited Guest Policy and Procedures.

Complete the International Preceptor Agreement and submit to GMEOnboarding@swedish.org.  Make sure that we get a working, active email address for you, the invited guest.  Please submit the completed Agreement as soon as possible, but at least six (6) months in advance of a proposed start date.

After the Preceptor Agreement is validated by Swedish, you will receive an email communication instructing you to complete an Onboarding Checklist, which will request the remainder of Required Documents/Confirmations.  The documents and confirmations must be official, legible, and in English. We recommend completing the checklist as soon as possible after receiving it, but no later than two months before a proposed start date.
