Saturday, April 28, 2018
Full-day Conference
Bell Harbor Intl. Conference Center
2211 Alaskan Way
Seattle, Washington

The Friday Evening Lecture will take place at the World Trade Center Seattle, located across the street from Bell Harbor. The Saturday Full-day Course will take place in the Bay Auditorium at Bell Harbor International Conference Center.

This course will combine didactic lectures, case discussions and latest updates on new information presented at the European Association for the Study of the Liver. A state-of-the-art evening lecture on Hepatitis B from a global perspective by a world-renowned expert will kick off the conference, followed by a reception. The course will feature new information on the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C, hepatitis B, NAFLD, NASH, cholestatic liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, portal hypertension and liver transplantation presented by nationally recognized experts. There will be ample time for panel discussion using illustrative cases including interaction with expert faculty. Many clinicians from various disciplines are involved in the care of these patients and an update is necessary for clinicians to provide optimal patient care.

Target Audience
This conference is designed for gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, radiologists, allied health providers and primary care providers that care for patients with liver disease.

Details

The epidemic of chronic viral hepatitis was responsible for almost 1.5 million deaths in 2013 and is a major public health crisis worldwide. This healthcare crisis has resulted in a call to action from the World Health Organization to eliminate chronic viral hepatitis. The rapid development of safe and highly effective antiviral regimens for chronic hepatitis C and effective therapies for chronic hepatitis B have made improvements possible in morbidity and mortality from this disease. Recent data suggest that 4 in 10 U.S. adults are obese; nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is present in almost one-third of U.S. adults and a subset of individuals with NAFLD has nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the serious form of NAFLD; one-third of patients with NASH may develop advanced liver disease. New therapies are emerging for chronic cholestatic and autoimmune liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC).

This course will include updates on new therapies for chronic hepatitis C, PBC, NASH and hepatitis B. Several novel therapies are being developed for complications of liver disease such as portal hypertension. The field of liver transplantation has evolved rapidly over the past several decades and many more clinicians from various disciplines are involved in the care of these patients. An update on management of complications of liver disease such as portal hypertension and end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma is timely and necessary for clinicians to provide optimal patient care.

Agenda

Objectives

By attending this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:

  • Interpret the latest data and evidence-based guidelines in bringing continuous quality improvement to patient care and self-learning
  • Describe novel therapies for portal hypertension
  • Explain guidelines for referral of patients with liver disorders for specialty care or transplant
