Bike the US for MS donates $25,000 to Swedish MS Center
August 20, 2015
For the fourth year in a row, the committed riders of Bike the US for MS arrived at the Peddler Brewing Co. in Ballard this month to present a $25,000 gift to the Swedish MS Center in honor of its excellence in MS care.
Family and community members were there on Aug. 4 to celebrate the final leg of the cyclists’ cross-country trip and their commitment to helping multiple sclerosis patients nationwide. To date, the bike tour has contributed more than $100,000 to the Swedish MS Center, helping to ensure that patients in the Pacific Northwest have access to vital MS services today and in the future.
Bike the US for MS is a Virginia-based non-profit organization that coordinates a series of bike tours across the United Sates, starting as far away as Bar Harbor, Maine. This event raises awareness about multiple sclerosis, with proceeds supporting research, treatment and home modification projects for MS patients.
The organization’s goal is to combine an important cause with an incredible experience. During the trip, cyclists stop in communities along the way and volunteer their time to MS patients. They help with everything from yard makeovers to cleaning and painting -- anything that may be difficult for an MS patient to complete. Proceeds are used to fund modification projects such as handicapped ramps and restrooms.
Thank you to Bike the US for MS for its generous contribution. This donation will help the Swedish MS Center provide patients with comprehensive care, including MS education activities, social work, vocational counseling
and wellness programs.
