Swedish Media Alert: March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020

The well-being of our patients and caregivers is our top priority, especially during this time. With COVID-19 circulating in our community, Swedish is taking steps to ensure the safety of our patients and our facilities in order to care for as many COVID-19 patients as possible.

To preserve capacity to meet the acute health care needs of our patients, Swedish has decided to temporarily stop elective inpatient and outpatient surgeries for non-life threatening and non-urgent care at our hospital campuses, effective Friday, March 13. This applies to procedures at all our hospital campuses (First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, Issaquah and Edmonds).

This action is directly related to our efforts to effectively respond to COVID-19 care and prevention. While this is a decision we have made based on our operations, we support the Washington State Hospital Association in their advocacy efforts to ensure hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers have the flexibility to continue performing elective procedures if they have the capacity.

Our care teams are working with patients to reschedule elective surgeries. Swedish patients who currently have elective surgeries scheduled will be contacted to reschedule their procedures.
