Learn how to eat for your health at free, public event

On June 15, 2018, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Swedish will host the Metabolical You authors event. This will be an educational and enlightening evening with Dr. David Ludwig and Dr. Robert Lustig, New York Times best-selling authors and doctors, who have a nutritional plan to help transform your health and metabolism.

“We are excited to bring this special event to our community,” shared Dr. Uma Pisharody, pediatric gastroenterologist with Swedish. “We hope people take the valuable information they learn from these incredible authors and are able to apply it to their everyday lives.”

After the opening remarks, Dr. Robert Lustig, author and professor emeritus of pediatric endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco, will read and discuss excerpts of his New York Times best-selling books, Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processes Food, Obesity, and Disease and The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains with attendees. Dr. Lustig has become a leading public health authority on the impact sugar has on fueling the diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome epidemics, and on addressing changes in the food environment to reverse these chronic diseases. His medical research and clinical practice has focused on childhood obesity and diabetes. He has led a global advocacy effort to expose and reverse food industry myths that underlie the current pandemic of diet-related disease. Dr. Lustig believes the food business, by pushing processed food loaded with sugar, has hacked our bodies and minds to pursue pleasure instead of happiness, fostering today’s epidemics of addiction and depression.

Following Dr. Lustig, Dr. David Ludwig, author and leading Harvard Medical School expert and obesity warrior, will read and discuss excerpts from his New York Times best-selling book ALWAYS HUNGRY with attendees. In this book, Dr. Ludwig rewrites the rules on weight loss, diet, and health. David Ludwig, is a practicing endocrinologist, researcher, and professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health and directs the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on how food affects hormones, metabolism, body weight, and well-being.

After the guest speakers, there will be an opportunity to buy books, meet the authors, and get books signed, courtesy of Elliot Bay Book Sellers. This is a free event open to the public and will be held at the Plymouth Church, United Church of Christ (1217 6th Ave, Seattle, WA 98101).
