Statement from the Swedish Board of Trustees on DOH and CMS Survey at Cherry Hill
August 10, 2017
***Statement from Board Chair Teresa Bigelow, Vice Chair Janet True and Former Chair Dr. Michael Hart on behalf of the Swedish Board of Trustees***
We take the findings published today by the state Department of Health and U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services very seriously. We are partnering closely with our new CEO, Dr. Guy Hudson, and his team, as we work together to do what is best for our patients. In a matter of months, we already have made tremendous progress under his leadership.
We are sorry for what occurred at Swedish Cherry Hill on our watch. As volunteers, we continue to be deeply committed to our critical governance role in overseeing patient quality and safety, as well as physician credentialing.
The Board has been working hard to restore trust. In the last several months, we have hired a new CEO, who brought in a new Chief Medical Officer and established new Swedish neurosurgery medical leadership. The Board has actively engaged with our medical staff, listened to caregivers, and will add practicing Swedish physicians to the Board beginning in January 2018.
We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all Swedish caregivers for the outstanding work they do every day for our patients and our community.
Our pledge is to continue to improve communication, service and support for our Swedish patients, physicians, caregivers and community.
