Swedish SummerRun for Ovarian Cancer Research

Each summer, thousands of volunteers take part in the annual Swedish SummeRun on Seattle’s First Hill. They are patients, family members and friends, and they give their time and effort to raise funds to benefit the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research.

Although ovarian cancer is relatively rare compared to breast cancer, it’s  usually not detected until it has reached the more advanced stages when it’s  often too late to cure. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 20,000 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year.

Every dollar raised through this festive, family-friendly charity event goes directly into research. Over the last 17 years, the 5K Swedish SummeRun has raised more than $4 million for the Center.

No single institution is capable of discovering a cure for ovarian cancer on its own. It will take the greater scientific community of exceptional researchers, working together to eradicate this disease.Through SummeRun proceeds, the Center helps fund promising studies that may lead to breakthroughs in new early diagnostic tests and treatment.
