Dr. Oskouian is a neurosurgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex spinal disorders. As the Chair of the Complex Spine Department, his clinical practice located on the Swedish/Cherry Hill campus in Seattle focuses on scoliosis, spinal deformities, spine trauma, spine fractures, spinal surgery revisions, osteoporosis, spinal cord injury, degenerative disc disease, spine tumors, stereotactic spinal radiosurgery, spine infections, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. Dr. Oskouian received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Virginia under the late Dr. John Jane, Sr. Dr. Oskouian completed his neurosurgery fellowship at the New Zealand National Hospital in Auckland. Dr. Oskouian has published in numerous medical journals and textbooks, including Neuroscience, Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical Clinics of North America, the Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical Focus and Spine. His philosophy of care is to provide comprehensive, individualized medical care for his patients based on the most recent scientific advances. Cyberknife is a type of radiosurgery used to deliver radiation to a specific part of the body. This high-energy x-ray system utilizes a robotic arm to deliver focused beam radiation. While the focused radiation can destroy tumor cells and halt tumor growth, the surrounding tissues have minimal exposure to the radiation, thus sparing them from damage.

excellent experience with Dr Oskouian and his team. Their concern and professionalism made me decide to have my surgery at Swedish even though we are living part time in [...] and part time in [...]. We will fly there to have the surgery done.

like everything now more about data entry than helping patients.

This may have been the most rude and dismissive doctor I have ever seen.He basically told me to go have the treatments that I have ALREADY HAD. I tried to explain, he answered as if I wasnt in the room. He said I was over weight and a senior citizen (I'm 55) and I sit too much. I explained I just lost 20 pounds and DO NOT sit at all in my job. Also, the diagnosis he gave me had already been ruled out by Dr [...]. (who refered me) This surgeon had made up his mind before he walked in. He was horrible. I am seeing another Surgeon and will never recommend Swedish Neuro again.

The room was jam packed with all sorts of staff...scribe, scribe in training, Fellow and others. It was pretty distracting. After realizing that I was not a surgery candidate I would have appreciated additional patient teaching about what was going on. Just being told to start Yoga was not helpful. Follow up care was given only after I asked about being proactive and keeping up on my spinal health. Could a PA or someone spend a few more minutes and answer some questions without the crowded room? I left frustrated and still in pain.

After three visits to the provider, I saw the Dr. only once for about 3 minutes. I was told "there is nothing I can do for you" and left. I live 80 miles (one way) from the office. My first visit was with the nurse (she was excellent) and she ordered tests. Second visit was for testing (staff personnel again were excellent), third visit was with the Dr. For what he told me in those 3 minutes, he could have called me on the phone. One good thing that happened was that [...] stayed behind and answered some of my questions that the Dr. should have answered. Not in all my trips to a physician I have I been more angry.

I am very confused. On [...], Dr. Oskouian had scheduled me for scoliosis surgery for [...], two surgeries. I agreed to this surgery because he read my x-rays which showed I now have a [...]-degree scoliotic curve. However, a week later, through myChart, I received the radiologist report showing that my curve is only [...]-degrees. Because of that and some other questions, I scheduled a pre-surgery follow-up meeting with Dr. Oskouian [...] to ask him a few questions. In the middle of answering my first question, he stated he wanted to cancel my surgeries. His reason is that my pain level (that day only) was a "2" whereas it's usually a "6". I explained to him that I had been taking days off work and had been resting for many days (no walking!) which is why. Dr Oskouian stated that I may never see any benefits of the scoliosis surgery, and I will lose a great deal of flexibility. Dr. Oskouian now wants to pursue a different surgery [...]. I'm very confused. [...]

Dr. Oskouian gave me my quality of life back. I will be forever grateful for the successful surgery and follow up care provided by Dr. Oskouian and his staff.

the Dr. spend a short amount of time with us as I am sure he was very busy. he was through and gave good advice but seemed a little distant.

The doctor was obviously very knowledgeable.

five years ago he was a new doctor and talk to his patients. Now he did not spend any time with me

[…] The. Dr. was in the room with me maybe 5-7 min told me what was wrong and stay in brace for 6wks. That's it. No explanation of CT, no overview of type of injury and its effect, what can happen, how it heals, why this kind of brace, what should I do about medicines, how I should sleep at night, etc. No concern about my personal situation about my job, home situation at it relates to my injury and how it may effect me. I want a new provider. […]

He was good. Time should be a little longer.

[...] He did not address my condition or concerns. He only looked at the images and had his mind made up before considering my medical history or seeing me. [...] He made assumptions about me without asking any questions. [...] This is very inconsiderate and unprofessional. I meticulously and honestly answered every question on my pre-registration paperwork. It was obvious that the nurses were the only people who read it. [...] My most limiting condition is the inability to travel because of the leg and foot pain. He gave that no consideration at all. [...] It appears to me that he had the idea in his head that I was asking for a rebuild of my thoracic spine surgery, because he repeated that surgically cutting through my thoracic back muscles would make me worse off. That is the farthest thing from what I am asking for. [...]

Dr. Rod Oskouian gave me my life back. I can't say enough "thank you's" other doctor where I live said I could not work again. God bless Dr. Oskouian anyone I no I would tell them to drive 250 miles west to go to Swedish Medical Center also to Dr. Rod Oskouian.
