Alex C. Efird, MD

Primary Care Physician
Languages: English
Professional Statement
To paraphrase the German philosopher Goethe He (or she) who does not take time for health will soon make time for sickness. My goal is to help patients stay healthy using as little medicine as possible by using appropriate screening to find diseases early when they are easier to treat, and by helping patients identify which behaviors they can change to improve their health.

Dr. Efrid professionalism stands out. He explains cause and effect of my health issues. He makes recommendations for issues... a terrific resource. [...]

In the most recent visit, I came very prepared with the list of needs/observations I had. Evidently he is not used to that! because he was clearly short on time, unwilling to thoroughly discuss/engage with them all (5) and I felt shorted. I LIKE Dr. Efird VERY MUCH, but wish there was a bit more time/less harried scheduling in his appointment time with me. I come very prepared, make the most of my time with him and it is very clear that this is definitely NOT respected or reciprocated by the Swedish allowance/operations guidelines he has to work within. Simply: IO need a doc who is not pressured so much by his management to PRODUCE, RUSH AND MOVE ALONG at my expense. Would you prefer I made FIVE SEPARATE appointments? I think not. So why short me so severely when I work to make things as efficient as possible?.

I've been a patient of Dr. Efird's since Dr. [...] retired. I've been very impressed by Dr. Efird's knowledge and persistence in seeking a solution to my perplexing health issue. Other doctors I have talked to rate Dr. Efird very highly, which I value. I feel I have a solid relationship and value his knowledge and his background on my health. Trusting ones primary care physician is a luxury and I feel very fortunate to have that with Dr. Efird.

seemed slightly more time constrained than on previous visits, otherwise all good.

Dr. Efird is a knowledgeable and competent physician who has provided timely and helpful care during mental health issues I was facing. In regards to weight loss conversations, Dr. Efird would, in my opinion, benefit from more of a motivational interviewing approach rooted in listening and understanding versus what has felt to me like un-personalized lecturing that did little to educate and support, and was rather deflating and demoralizing.

I have been a patient of Dr. Efird since he started his practice at the Swedish predecessor, Minor & James Clinic. He is an outstanding physician, combining excellent medial knowledge and practical advice. He gives his patients undivided attention and makes excellent referrals when required.

I have a fear of doctors in general. The bloodpressure shows this when taken. The check-up I had was reduced from acute bronchitus to allergy reaction. I was explained with the medication that was initially perscribed from the Walgreens Express in Issaquah was merely for allergies and that I can cease taking them. The provider did express concern for the high blood pressure. Suggested that I purchase a home pressure unit and send the results. It was hard to figure out how to send this message electronically through MyChart. I did and got a response back within an hour or two.

Dr. Efird has been my primary care provider for many years. I recommended him to several close friends who now use his services. There is no better primary care provider than Alex Efird. Minor and James is privileged to have Dr. Efird on staff. He has treated me for a multitude of problems, many complex in nature. He is always thorough, compassionate and clearly has my best interests and good health at the forefront of his recommendations. He is prompt to respond to inquiries and I trust him completely as my primary provider.

Dr. Efird was condescending, dismissive and indifferent to the point of being unkind. I won't be coming back to Swedish.

I had a very poor experience. Dr. Efird talked down to me, didn't really listen to what I had to say. Was not concerned about my thoughts or opinions. Made me feel humiliated. Sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy, even after I clarified the correct pharmacy. Made me feel incredibly stupid for taking vitamins. VERY VERY Poor experience. Will not recommend to anyone, nor will I ever be back here.

Dr. Efird was also my mothers' PCP and was the only one who was honest with me when my mothers health began to fail. He is always looking for the cause of the symptoms I may have rather than just treating the effect.

I had formerly been with a very good concierge medical service, but my Dr. retired, and I was unimpressed with the other staff, so I moved to Dr Efird. I must say that I believe my medical treatment by him and his staff is as good or better than the high priced concierge service

I don't feel at ease with my provider and don't feel that I can talk to him about anything that is on my mind as far as my care.

I had questions about my diet and food allergies with aging. He explained the difference between food intolerance and allergy. I have tried his suggestions about testing for intolerances, and sure enough, right there was the answer, in my first week of trials!

Only problem was that Dr. Efird was no more successful than I was in obtaining follow up ultrasound from radiology.

I TOLD MY DOCTOR I ALWAYS FEEL GGOD WHEN I LEAVE HIS OFFICE, BECAUSE I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN HIS DIAGNOSIS, WHICH SO FAR AS I HAVE BEEN SEEING HIM IS 100%. HE DOES NOT RUSH ME THROUGH AND ASKS QUESTIONS THAT I UNDERSTAND AND CAN RELATE TO WHAT IS BOTHERING ME.

6 months earlier another Swedish provider made a note on My Chart and informed me that this provider would follow up based on the blood test results. No one from Efird's office read the note and I had to call [...]'s office and request they take the required action. [...]
