Dr. David Dong always goes above and beyond his duties. He consistently gives his absolute best but will refer out to another Swedish doctor, research thoroughly and/or consult with his peers for the absolute current treatment options available if needed. He is humble, open minded, extremely informed, thorough and listens with a caring heart. His gives honest feedback all while being open to yours as well. He gives my wife [...] (who can't say enough good things about him ) and I all the time we need as I battle with [...] prostate cancer. It is a journey that he carefully, respectfully and professionally walks with us. There are not enough words in the English language to best describe how Dr. Dong gives .. and gives and kindly gives even more than is asked or required of himself. His tireless and patient efforts are greatly valued, respected and appreciated. He is the best of the best! [...] and and I are forever grateful.

Dr. Dong started the appointment with "Your prognosis is poor, you have a 10% chance of living 5 years". This statement is true for the average pancreatic patient, but if he looked at my records before the appointment, he would have found that this was incidentally found and that there is a chance I may be in a different statistical bucket. He was looking and reading my records during the appointment, both my wife and I have the impression that he never looked at my records before the appointment as there is different information on early tests and later and these differences are significant. By the way, my wife is a nurse practitioner provided, so she knows something about health care, she was appalled by his bedside manner. Dr. Dong was very factual, but gave more his opinion information. Here's an example, I asked about a few possible things I could do to improve my situation, curcuminm, metformin and a ketogenic diet. He said the first two didn't matter and the last "people can't stay on it". While that is also true, a better answer would be that most people can't stay on it, but if you were able to, you may get XXX as a benefit. He needs to understand the impact on the patient of this, I was very upset for the next day, looking for any hope and while I understand there may be no hope, having a provider who talks in positive ways, even when delivering bad news is important. He is one of the reasons that I will not keep my treatment at Swedish. Thankfully, I had an appointment at [...] two days later and have what I think is a good treatment plan. They told me much of the same information, but looked at the complete set of information and came to the same conclusion as Dr. [...], the Swedish surgeon I would have used -- he was great BTW. I felt bad about not getting care from Dr. [...], but I could have never been a patient of Dr Dongs.

Dr Dong is exceptional - hopefully you can keep that Issaquah team intact through the current challenges you are facing. As a patient, I will follow the team - the care staff has won my loyalty and respect; not to be confused by the facility.

Dr. David Dong has been my Oncologist since late March 2014. I consider him outstanding. He truly abides by Swedish's motto: "Extraordinary Care ... Extraordinary Caring". I consider him a friend! He has always been there for me; and continues to explore available treatments for my multiple myeloma. He is the BEST!
