Need for Organ Donations Expected to Grow

More than 1,200 people in Washington state are now on a waiting list for a kidney transplant, nearly 200 are waiting for a liver and scores more for pancreas, heart, lung and other organs. Dr. Marquis Hart, director of the Swedish Transplant Program, said that the need will likely only grow in the coming years as our population ages and the long-term effects of conditions like obesity, diabetes, hypertension and chronic hepatitis lead to more cases of organ failure.
