Bariatrician of the Year 2013
Seattle obesity medicine physician receives highest award of honor from National Medical Society focused on clinical obesity treatment
DENVER (Oct. 23, 2013)—On October 12 in Phoenix, Richard J. Lindquist, M.D., A.B.F.M., F.A.A.S.P., was named Bariatrician of the Year by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) during an awards ceremony attended by more than 500 clinical obesity medicine specialists. The award is presented annually and recognizes a physician who has done the most to advance the field of bariatric medicine and the Society.
Dr. Lindquist has been a member of the Society since 2006 and is currently serving in his second elected term on the ASBP Board of Trustees, which he joined in 2010. Earlier this year, he worked to advance awareness about the field of obesity medicine by presenting a continuing medical education (CME) lecture on the topic to more than 1,000 family physicians at the American Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly. He was recently selected as one of only three U.S. clinical obesity medicine physicians to speak in 2014 in London at the first Obesity Update—a CME program jointly hosted by the Society and the U.K. Association of Physicians Specialising in Obesity.
Dr. Lindquist is the medical program director at Swedish Weight Loss Services (Seattle) and is one of the founders of Monarch Medical Weight Loss Centers in Oregon. He is board-certified in family medicine and is a diplomate of the American of Board of Obesity Medicine. His background is in emergency medicine and emergency medical services (EMS), and in 2001 he was honored as Oregon EMS Medical Director of the Year.
His experience in EMS and community service continues to inform his activities in program development, community and physician education, practitioner training and direct patient care. Dr. Lindquist received his medical degree from the University of Washington (Seattle) and completed his residency at the University of South Florida (Tampa).
