What to Expect: Toddlers
- Need 12-14 hours of sleep per day.
- By 18 months, 1 nap/day for 1 - 3 hours, no naps near bedtime.
- Sleep problems in toddlers are fairly common: bedtime resistance, nighttime awakenings, sleepwalking, and nightmares.
- Keep regular daytime & bedtime schedules, and a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Set and consistently enforce limits.
- A stuffed animal or blanket for security often helps a child to self-settle at this age.
