Talking to Your Doctor

Talking to Your Doctor

There are three easy steps headache sufferers can take before they talk to their doctor:

  1. Make a specific appointment. The doctor will spend a full office visit to take your complete headache history, family history and review other co-existing health conditions.
  2. Compile a personal headache history. Complete a "headache calendar" that details your headache symptoms, headache frequency, associated disability and related lifestyle factor that can make headache worse; for example, certain foods, menstruation, travel and other factors that trigger your headaches.
  3. List medications or treatments. A complete understanding of current health conditions and medications will h help your doctor select the right treatment for you. A list of medications that have NOT been helpful also will help in this decision-making process.
