Movement Disorder Evaluation & Testing
A neurologist who specializes in movement disorders will begin your assessment to determine the cause, severity and progression of the disease.
The movement disorders neurologist will assess and review your medical history and the results of any previous tests. He or she will evaluate your movement, sensation and balance, and also observe the way you walk.
Depending on your age and symptoms, the neurologist may request additional tests, such as:
- CT and/or PET scan
- EEG (electroencephalogram)
- Laboratory testing
- Spinal fluid analysis
- Neuropsychological evaluation
The results of these tests help “fine tune” the diagnosis.
A neurosurgeon may also be consulted to determine whether surgical options, along with other types of treatment, might produce the best possible results for you.
