Physical Wellness

Physical Wellness

Physical activity through exercise is important in maintaining function. We encourage people with all levels of ability to exercise. Our wellness center gym is equipped with exercise equipment for all levels of ability, and our staff are familiar with the issues of exercise in multiple sclerosis.

Custom Exercise Programs

During three visits with our multiple sclerosis physical therapists and exercise physiologists, people are evaluated for exercise goals and physical abilities. A custom-designed exercise program is tailored to meet each participant’s needs and limitations. This is an excellent way to learn what exercises or equipment work for you.

Resources for Limited Strength

Our multiple sclerosis physical therapists are skilled at developing exercise programs for those with limited strength. Our specialized equipment includes weight-supported treadmill, functional electrical stimulation (FES) bike, motorized exercise bike, egometers, adult tricycle and standing frames so that people with all levels of ability can participate in exercise.

Free Exercise and Movement Classes

Physical wellness classes tailored for people with multiple sclerosis meet at the Multiple Sclerosis Center several times per week. These classes are an excellent way to have fun and increase flexibility and wellbeing. Most classes are free and open to all people living with MS, including caregivers/partners, regardless of where they receive their clinical care.

Current classes include:

  • Aerobics for MS
  • Relaxation & Stress Reduction
  • Music Therapy
  • Gentle Yoga & Wellness Skills
