Neonatal Resuscitation Program™ (NRP)
The Gossman Center for Advanced Healthcare Simulation at Swedish is pleased to offer The Neonatal Resuscitation Program™ (NRP), sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association.
Faculty from the Gossman Center presents the concepts and teaches the skills of neonatal resuscitation. Participants of the NRP Provider and Home Birth and Birthing Center courses come fully prepared and ready to work on specific skills, and to participate as team members in neonatal resuscitation scenarios. Scenarios are tailored to reflect participants’ practices.
Both courses include skills review, videotaped simulation focusing on teamwork, effective communication and role adoption. Each simulation is followed by facilitated debriefing.
This course is recommended for those that have experience in a birth setting or care for newborns in the immediate postpartum period. NRP does not certify competence or change legal scope of practice.
Successful completion of the NRP requires significant advance preparation and includes the following elements.
1. Independent study of the NRP 6th edition eTextbook or Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook.
- Successful completion of the NRP on-line exam that covers Lessons 1-4 and 9 ( Basic NRP) or Lessons 1-9 ( Advanced NRP)
- To access the online exam, go to www.aap.org/nrp. Upon completion of the exam, participants are eligible to attend an NRP class at the Gossman Center Advanced Healthcare Simulation.
2. Present a copy of your NRP Online Exam Verification of Completion to the instructor on the day of the course.
