Biography & Education

It's the uniqueness of our West Seattle area, seeing 2nd and 3rd generations of families that makes this clinic just a joy to work in. As physicians, I see our role here as more a guide for our parents, helping them to sort through the myriad of health information available in hopes of equipping them with the knowledge they need to make the best possible decisions concerning the health of their children.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

He is a "big picture" kind of doctor! We appreciate having him as our child's doctor.

I was very disappointed with the way this provider dealt with my family during our visit. He made me feel inadequate as I tried to shush, calm, and quiet my tantruming son. [...]

Our son loves his doctor, Dr. Scholten, and so do we!
Swedish Patient

Dr Scholten is always great and was for this checkup too. The medical assistant at this visit was a bit abrasive.
Swedish Patient

the bedside manner of this physician was a little awkward to the point that my child expressed disliking him. He felt like he was being questioned a lot and his answers doubted by the MD

Dr. Scholten is fantastic with my little guy. We've seen at least 3-4 other providers here as well with more emergent issues and all of the physicians have been spectacular.

I (the 11 month old patient's mother) had never met this provider before and he did not introduce himself when he walked into the room. He did not acknowledge or respond to information the patient's grandmother shared about her observations and concerns regarding the patient's health. He gave the impression of having come to a conclusion about his diagnosis before hearing the full story, and came across as abrupt and not concerned. I did not feel heard during this visit. I would not see this provider again, and would not recommend him.
Swedish Patient

My kids and I are very at ease with Dr. Scholten. He's funny, respectful and makes visiting the doctor stress-free.

Assumed infection & continued need for antibiotic - rather than do tests & confirm

Our NP was not my favorite. She seemed to lack empathy which is tough for me, as a first time mom of a less baby less than 2 weeks. She served us at two of our visits and was a bit rough with the baby.
Swedish Patient

I felt he was rushing to get to his next patient. I didn't feel comfortable asking my questions because of the way he was responding to me. I'm not against immunizations but because I had questions about them I felt I was being treated like an extremest. I had a really experiance at this last visit. I'm a first time mother and just trying to make the best informed decisions. I also don't know what is normal for babies and am learning myself. What I want in a provider is someone that is compassionate, kind and willing to explain and offer advice.

There is nothing Dr. Scholten could do about this, however, I'd like more one on one time with him on any given appointment. I feel like we are just one of many patients in his day. He is very accomodating but its almost as of he has one foot out of the door when he gets in.
