Dr. Birchfield traveled from the Arizona Cancer Center to Seattle in 1991. Both his father and grandfather were physicians in Seattle, so returning to Washington was like coming home.
According to Dr. Birchfield, "To be a good oncologist, you need to be a good internist first -- a good all-around doctor as well as a cancer specialist."
When not in the clinic, Dr. Birchfield enjoys being with his family, participating in sports, outdoor activities and coaching children's athletic teams.
"I do everything I can to make each patient more comfortable -- physicially and emotionally. One is just as important as the other."
Dr. Birchfield was voted "Top Doctors" in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine (2012)
Nearly 4,500 physicians, nurses and physician assistants in King, Kitsap and Snohomish counties nominated colleagues they would choose to treat themselves and their loved ones.
