Certified nurse-midwives at Swedish pride themselves in partnering with you to create the most personalized childbirth experience possible – one that best reflects your personal, cultural and spiritual beliefs. Our birthing center offers families comfortable birthing suites with full access to medical and technological assistance, if necessary.

Most of our patients schedule with different midwives for prenatal visits in order to meet the team, however you also have the option to stay with one midwife throughout your pregnancy if you prefer.

We communicate often with each other about our patients and what is happening in their pregnancies and their lives. We work 24-hour call rotations at the hospital, and your birth will be attended by the nurse-midwife who is on call on the day (or night!) of your delivery.

In addition to attending births and helping pregnant people prepare for parenthood, our certified nurse-midwives provide comprehensive reproductive health care including annual exams, birth-control counseling, menopausal care and primary care.

  • Physical exams
  • Preconception care
  • Teen pregnancy care
  • Prenatal screening and care
  • Ultrasound referrals
  • Childbirth
  • Epidural anesthesia during labor
  • VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean)
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Follow-up appointments

Some health conditions may preclude you from seeing a nurse-midwife for your pregnancy care. Please ask us if you are unsure if you are appropriate for midwifery care.

Should you require a cesarean, your on-call nurse-midwife assists the obstetrician with the surgery. Our consulting physicians are available 24 hours a day in case of emergency, questions, or surgery.

Swedish offers a unique approach to prenatal care through CenteringPregnancy®. Centering brings pregnant people and their partners or other support people together for group sessions on all aspects of prenatal care. Soon-to-be parents find companionship, build community and support each other as they discuss common pregnancy concerns and plan for their new babies.

CenteringPregnancy sessions, composed of about eight to 12 -families, start early in the pregnancy. The two-hour meetings are initially held every four weeks and increase to every two weeks as the pregnancy progresses. Pregnant people learn how to record their own vitals (weight and blood pressure); and at each session they discuss and learn about important subjects such as nutrition and exercise, coping with labor and lactation.

For an appointment, please call our office at 425-313-4141. No referral is necessary. To expedite registration, please arrive 20 minutes early to your appointment with the appropriate paperwork fully complete. This will give us the information we need to take the best possible care of you.
