Swedish Edmonds offers conventional digital mammography as well as digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3-D mammography. With tomosynthesis, an X-ray beam sweeps through the breast in an arc and takes pictures of multiple “slices” of breast tissue. A radiologist then looks through the series of images. Digital tomosynthesis allows the detection of small abnormalities that may be hidden by normal breast tissue. It also allows the radiologist to tell the difference between a clump of normal tissue and a true mass. All breast imaging performed within the Swedish Breast Centers is provided by dedicated professional staff credentialed in breast imaging.

In addition to mammography, the Swedish Edmonds Breast Center provides the following tests and procedures:

  • Breast ultrasounds
  • Breast core biopsies
  • Breast cyst aspirations
  • Stereotactic breast biopsies
  • Breast localizations
  • Galactograms/ductograms

American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence sealThe Swedish Edmonds Breast Center is proud to be designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). By awarding facilities this status, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

Our nurse navigator is here for you

At Swedish Edmonds Breast Center we can offer our patients a very unique service – our breast health nurse navigator. Our nurse navigator assists patients in understanding their image findings, explains the various testing and procedures that are recommended and then provides our patients with the results of their testing. She is available to meet with you to review your diagnosis, explain how the available information assists in planning your treatment and together, you will design a road map, outlining the next steps of your care. The nurse navigator is available to offer support to you and your family, in all aspects of your treatment, as you start your breast care journey.

Along with our radiologist, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologist, surgeons and primary care providers, our navigator is part of our breast health and cancer care team. The entire team works closely together to formulate a plan that is specific to your individual needs and will provide the exceptional care that you come to expect at Swedish Edmonds.

“As a nurse, I have 35 years of experience caring for patients in our community. I am here to help you walk through your journey beyond the initial diagnosis and through your entire course of treatment,” says Joyce Miller, RN, nurse navigator at Swedish Edmonds. “Breast health is something that touches every woman. Whether it’s understanding how to complete your monthly breast exams, taking part in your recommended screenings, or facing your cancer care treatment; we’re with you every step of the way.”
