Edmonds Campus Expansion
Half-Century of History and Building for the Future Celebrated
A half-century of health-care service to our community and a groundbreaking for the largest hospital expansion in 40 years were celebrated on Sept. 10 at Swedish Edmonds. More than 300 guests attended celebration activities which included a groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of our hospital expansion project.
Phase II of the hospital expansion project is a two-story, 77,000-square-foot hospital addition that includes:
A new emergency department with private exam rooms and reduced wait times
An urgent care center offering faster, more affordable care
A new outpatient diagnostic imaging center
A new 7,600-square-foot public lobby that’s spacious and inviting
And 37,000-square-feet of additional reserved space on the second floor for future hospital services and programs
Construction of the new emergency department and urgent care center is anticipated to be complete fall 2015. Once constructed, a time capsule will be placed in a cornerstone of the building and a small plaque will identify the location. The hospital opened in 1964 as a result of voters approving the establishment of Snohomish County Public Hospital District #2 in 1962. Back then, the entire facility and property cost $2 million. The new expansion will cost over $60 million.
