Expectations of Residents:

The Swedish program has a unique apprentice based model that gives you early patient care and operative responsibilities coupled with one-on-one attending interaction. This allows for early exposure to these competencies with close monitoring so that you experience a system of graduated responsibility while you master these goals.

Preliminary Residents:

There are five one-year Preliminary Surgery Residency positions available per year.  For the 2016-2017 academic year two positions will be deisgnated  for matched University of Washington Diagnostic Radiology residents. The other three positions are non-designated and available to any applicant seeking one year of surgical training prior to starting formal residency training in fields such as anesthesiology, radiology, or surgical specialties. 

As a resident in this program, you will experience:

  • Extensive operative training with categorical residents, along with program specific requirements.
  • A robust, dynamic curriculum with active and engaged faculty.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly didactic programs.
