Active Women, Healthy Women

From cancer patient to survivor, there is an exercise activity appropriate for you. The class is co-sponsored by Team Survivor Northwest and focuses on stretching, strength training and cardio workouts. This class is offered in Issaquah and Edmonds on a weekly basis. Cancer and Finances 101

When you or a loved one receives a cancer diagnosis, money is likely the last thing that you want to think about. And yet you may find yourself worrying about how you are going to pay for treatment. Taking control of these financial concerns right from the start can help to alleviate some of that stress. The class will help you understand the direct and indirect costs of treatment, and introduce you to community resources and governmental programs that are available to assist with healthcare costs.

Cancer-fighting Foods: Summer Stone Fruits

Join us for a cooking demonstration on Cancer-fighting Foods. Presented by Registered Dietitian and Certified Natural Chef, DeeAnna Wales VanReken, this fun tutorial will use tasty summer stone fruits (peaches, cherries, nectarines, etc.) to prepare a nutritious meal any day of the week! Creative Infusion

The writing prompts and activities in this class are designed to help you unleash your creativity in an easy, non-threatening way. Give yourself permission to let go, explore, create, and express yourself through poems, story, lists, or images. There is no "right way" to participate and whether or not you share your work is entirely up to you. No writing experience required.

Healing and maintaining strength are the number one goals during cancer treatment. With all of the appointments, recommendations, and new information, it can be difficult to focus on a healthy diet. Renewal through Art and Music

Experience the therapeutic use of art and music as you explore seasonal themes of transition and renewal in a supportive group setting. Art and music therapy can promote wellness, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase self-awareness. Register for one, two or all sessions of this 3-part series. No prior experience or creative confidence required. Co-lead by Nicole Stiver, Art Therapist and Betsy Hartman, Music Therapist.

Chair-Supported Yoga

Classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds on the 4th Floor, Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm. (excluding holidays).

This easy alternative to regular yoga utilizes a chair for help in transitioning to and from the floor, and for certain seated exercises.

Fee: $12/class, payable in class by check or cash only. First class is free.

Compassion Cultivation Training

This eight-week course helps you develop compassion, empathy and kindness for yourself and others. Learn to reduce stress, increase well-being and enhance your relationships through compassion education, discussion and listening/communication exercises.

Beginners Gentle Yoga

Gentle yoga is a slow-paced, 6-week introductory class for people with MS and related neurological diseases who are new to yoga. Fee: Free for the first 6-week session! $12/person/class or $60/person/series ($10/class) for continuing students.

Practicum students from Seattle Pacific University bring music therapy to the MS Center to sing, share, play and meditate with music. Music therapy blends movement and music in activities to help increase flexibility and mobility, improve mood, decrease stress and have fun. Healthy Weight Series

In this 3 series class you will learn the tools to eat well and maintain a healthy weight.  Whether you want to lose weight or learn how to maintain your weight, or your family’s weight, this series is for you!

In this class, you will gain:

  • Tools for everyday life including: Shopping lists and recipes, how to read a food label, proper portion control, and mindful eating techniques
  • An understanding of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals
  • An understanding of your own relationship with food

The TQI Diet: To Quiet Inflammation

The TQI Diet focuses on our personal relationships with food and the important role it plays in health and weight loss issues. One of the key feature to this diet is the lack of calorie restrictions and portion control.

Joint Journey seminar

Seminars daily, Tuesday-Friday from 1:15-2:15 p.m. at Swedish Orthopedic Institute (601 Broadway), main floor conference room. 

This one-hour seminar will inform you about what to expect before surgery, during your hospital stay and for the first several weeks after surgery. This class will include recommendations on how to prepare your home for a comfortable recovery.

Pain Management

Pain and Beyond

This class teaches coping techniques for people with pain-limiting conditions. Topics include an overview of the anatomy and physiology of pain, stress management, pacing, goal setting and logging, home therapies, nutrition and supplements, and hope, happiness and healing. Guided imagery, relaxation and gentle exercise are also covered.

Parenting

All About Puberty

This class provides a perfect opportunity to build a bridge with your 9- to 12-year-old to demystify the challenges of puberty. The focus of this fun, interactive class is to open and enhance communication between parents and preteens and explain the physical and emotional changes ahead. Taught in partnership with Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.

Fee: $35 per family (includes one child and up to two adults; $5 for each additional child).

Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED

Learn how to save a life using proper first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR techniques for adults, children and infants. Participant certifications are valid for two years.
