The Race Continues…19th Annual SummeRun & Walk Raises $558,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research

SEATTLE — August 12, 2013 — More than 3,500 enthusiastic patients, survivors and supporters gathered in Seattle last month to participate in the 19th annual Swedish presents SummeRun & Walk for ovarian cancer. Thanks to energized and proactive participants, this year’s event raised more than $558,000 in support of ovarian cancer research.


The SummeRun & Walk celebrates and remembers the lives of those who have been impacted by ovarian cancer. It is the Northwest’s largest community event to raise awareness and vital funds for ovarian cancer. Since its inception, the SummeRun has raised more than $6 million for medical research into the treatment, early detection, and prevention of this disease.

Swedish Celebrates Dr. Saul Rivkin’s Long, Impressive Career as a Devoted, Accomplished Medical Oncologist and Researcher in Fight Against Ovarian Cancer

SEATTLE, June 6, 2013 – Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) announced today that Saul Rivkin, M.D., medical oncologist, as well as founder and board chair of the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research, will retire from his clinical practice at SCI on July 1, 2013. The highly respected and revered physician, who is 77 years old and has five daughters and seven grandchildren, Dr. Rivkin is best known for his committed, tenacious approach to fighting cancer and the personal connection he has established with the thousands of patients he has cared for over the years.

Swedish Cancer Institute at Edmonds opens to the public at an April 17 ribbon-cutting ceremony on the Swedish/Edmonds campus. The two-story facility, located at 21632 Highway 99 in Edmonds, provides high-quality and comprehensive medical oncology to patients through an infusion unit, laboratory, pharmacy, and access to Swedish’s electronic medical record system.
 
EDMONDS, WASH.
, March 21, 2013 – Swedish Health Services will open a new outpatient cancer center at the Edmonds campus on Monday, April 1, 2013 in response to the growing need for medical oncology and infusion (chemotherapy) services in the south Snohomish and north King County area. The new two-story, 17,102-square-foot facility is anticipated to handle as many as 175 patient visits each day and provide increased access to cancer-care services for people living north of Seattle.

Swedish Set to Open Comprehensive True Family Women’s Cancer Center

SEATTLE – May 29, 2012 – Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) is set to open its new True Family Women’s Cancer Center to patients on Tuesday, June 5. Carefully designed with the female cancer patient in mind, the new 23,600-square-foot women’s cancer center gives Swedish Cancer Institute the ability to consolidate most of its services for treating women’s cancers into one facility. The new center acts as a treatment hub where women are guided through personalized and coordinated multidisciplinary treatment of their cancer, including disease-specific education and holistic support activities.
