Swedish Cancer Institute continues to grow team focused on blood cancers

The Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) continues to expand its hematology proficiency and treatment capabilities through the addition of international multiple myeloma expert Dr. William Bensinger. Dr. Bensinger joins his former colleague Dr. John Pagel, hired last year, as part of SCI’s Center for Blood Disorders and Stem Cell Transplantation team. Dr. Bensinger is known worldwide for his expertise in blood disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, using treatments including autologous stem cell transplantation, targeted radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

Swedish Now Offers TAVR Heart Valve Procedure Using Only Conscious Sedation

At Swedish, patients now have the ability to undergo transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) while under conscious sedation, rather than under general anesthesia (otherwise known as “deep sedation”). TAVR is a method used to replace a heart valve without using traditional open-heart surgery and is an option for patients due to age, frailty or other medical conditions.

Elizabeth Wako named as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Swedish First Hill

Swedish announced today the selection of Dr. Elizabeth Wako as Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) for Swedish First Hill in Seattle. Dr. Wako transitions to VPMA this week from her dual role as a staff anesthesiologist and as Medical Director for Swedish’s Preadmission Clinics for three campuses including First Hill, Cherry Hill and the Swedish Orthopedic Institute.

Swedish Edmonds hires new Vice President of Medical Affairs

Swedish Edmonds is excited to welcome a new Vice President of Medical Affairs, Sandeep Sachdeva, M.D. Dr. Sachdeva is a hospitalist, board certified in internal medicine as well as hospice and palliative care medicine. He will begin his role as Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) on Sept. 8. Dr. Sachdeva takes on the position following the tenure of Timothy Roddy, M.D. who served as the hospital’s VPMA since 2007 and will continue on medical staff as a full-time urologist.

Swedish Leadership Team Visits China and Korea to Partner with Local Hospitals for Educational and Training Opportunities

Swedish Health Services CEO Tony Armada is in Asia for the next few days to meet with several different hospitals in China and Korea to discuss and sign memorandums of understanding (MOUs). Initially, Swedish has signed an MOU with CongraMarie Hospital Group (consisting of nine hospitals including Maria Maternity) headquartered in Shanghai.

350 Swedish Providers Named as Top Doctors in 2015 by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine

We are proud to share that 350 Swedish-affiliated providers were included in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s 2015 list of Top Doctors, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. More than 1,500 doctors, physicians assistants, and nurses in the Seattle metropolitan area participated in the Top Doctors 2015 survey, for which the magazine asked, “If you or a loved one needed medical care, whom would you choose?”

Swedish Donates 1000 Emergency Preparedness Kits to Lifelong

On Thursday, August 13, Swedish donated 1,000 emergency preparedness kits to Lifelong (value $55,000). Lifelong is a community health organization that serves chronically ill individuals in 18 counties in Western Washington through food, housing, and health services.

The list was compiled through peer nominations and extensive research by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, a physician-led research firm.

This month, Swedish opens the doors on a new, expanded Organ Transplant and Liver Center on First Hill. This is the first Organ Transplant and Liver facility in the nation to provide all related services but surgery in one location and on one floor.

Swedish Opens Midwifery Program at First Hill

Parents at Swedish First Hill now have access to a specialized midwifery program for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care. The program is modeled after the success of the midwifery programs that currently exist at Swedish Issaquah and Swedish Ballard.
