Two of the three North Sound public district hospitals, who formed a consortium called the Interlocals, announced a decision today to explore a formal affiliation with PeaceHealth and UW Medicine. Skagit Regional Health and Cascade Valley Hospital will pursue the affiliation. Island Hospital announced it will not pursue an affiliation at this time.
Swedish Health Services and Providence Health & Services were one of three nonprofit health systems considered by Skagit Regional Health, Island Hospital and Cascade Valley Hospital (the Interlocals) to be potential affiliation partners. Swedish and Providence leaders worked closely over the last several months with Interlocal leadership to present possible affiliation structures and solutions – from maintaining independence governance to closer integration – while still remaining secular.
“We respect the Interlocals’ decision and remain committed to maintaining our positive relationship in the years ahead,” said Marcel Loh, interim chief executive for Swedish Health Services. “We remain committed to serving the North Puget Sound communities and being available as a resource to the Interlocals. Our specialty and sub-specialty medical centers in Everett, Edmonds and Seattle will continue to be available to serve the Interlocals and their physicians and patients when they are in need of a higher level of care not available locally.”
