Swedish Seattle Chief Executive (First Hill, Cherry Hill)
As chief executive, acute care, June Altaras will focus on the most efficient, effective and reliable way of delivering care in our hospitals by working directly with Rayburn Lewis, M.D., chief executive for Swedish Issaquah, and Jennifer Graves, chief executive for Swedish Edmonds. Altaras will lead a newly formed system acute care operations council.
As chief executive of Swedish Seattle, which includes the Cherry Hill and First Hill hospital campuses, Altaras oversees operations at Swedish’s two largest campuses. She began serving in this role in February 2014.
Previously, Altaras served as chief nursing officer for Swedish Health Services, overseeing all aspects of clinical nursing practice standards and nursing leadership throughout the Swedish system. She worked with all members of the senior leadership team, physicians, and the Swedish Health System Board of Trustees to assure the highest quality of care for patients. She has established Swedish as a premier nursing organization nationally, and created a nursing center of excellence within Swedish Health Services. She worked to create a culture that supports and provides for the professional development of nursing practice, management and leadership.
Previously, Altaras held the role of chief operating officer for Swedish First Hill, where she had leadership oversight for planning, organizing, implementing and managing operations for the hospital. As part of the operational executive team she directed and oversaw safety and quality assessment/improvement, strategic and operational planning, budget preparation and execution, and clinical operations.
Altaras has a passion for patient safety, quality and service. She enjoys working with teams to improve patient outcomes, experience and organizational effectiveness. She has spoken at several national conferences on leading sustainable change, including speaking before the United States Congress.
Altaras is an alumna of the University of Washington and is currently affiliate faculty with the University of Washington School of Nursing.
