As chief operating officer of Swedish/Seattle, which includes the Cherry Hill and First Hill hospital campuses, June Altaras oversees operations at Swedish’s two most important acute-care hospitals. She began serving in this role in February 2014.
Previously, Altaras served as the Swedish chief nursing officer, overseeing all aspects of clinical nursing practice standards and nursing leadership throughout the Swedish Health Services system. She worked with all members of the senior leadership team, physicians, and the board to assure the highest quality of care for patients. She established Swedish as a premier nursing organization nationally, and created a nursing center of excellence within Swedish Health Services. She is responsible for creating a culture that supports and provides for the professional development of nursing practice, management and leadership.
While serving as chief nursing officer, Altaras also held the role of chief operating officer for First Hill, where she had leadership oversight for planning, organizing, implementing and managing operations for Swedish/First Hill. As part of the operational executive team she directed and oversaw safety and quality assessment/improvement, strategic and operational planning, budget preparation and execution, and clinical operations.
Altaras has a passion for patient safety, quality and service. She enjoys working with teams to improve patient outcomes, experience and organizational effectiveness. She has spoken at several national conferences on leading sustainable change, including speaking before the United States Congress.
Altaras is an alumnus of the University of Washington and is currently affiliate faculty with the University of Washington School of Nursing.
