John H. Vassall II, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
John Vassall, M.D., is a board-certified internist and chief medical officer for Swedish.
In this role, he is a liaison between Swedish medical staff and Swedish Administration and oversees the management of medical education, medical staff services, clinical effectiveness, regulatory compliance and other areas associated with medical affairs.
Prior to his most recent position as vice president of medical affairs, Dr. Vassall was chief of staff from 2005 to 2007 and former division chief of General Internal Medicine at Minor & James Medical. He served as chief of staff-elect from 2003 to 2005 and he was medical staff president for Swedish Cherry Hill. He has been on staff at Swedish Cherry Hill since 1983 and at Swedish First Hill since 1984.
Dr. Vassall earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin. He holds a master's of science degree from the University of Washington (U.W.), where he also graduated from the School of Medicine. He did his residency and internship in internal medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta. He is a graduate of the U.W.'s Certificate Program in Medical Management.
Dr. Vassall serves on Swedish's Bylaws and Credentials committees and is past president of the U.W. School of Medicine Alumni Association. He is an American Medical Association delegate from the Washington State Medical Association. He served for almost two decades as speaker of the House of Delegates for the Washington State Medical Association and is a member of the Boards of Trustees for both the Washington State Hospital Association and the Washington State Medical Association.
In early November 2006, Dr. Vassall received the 2006 Washington-American College of Physicians Internist of the Year award by his peers for outstanding clinical skills and leadership.
