Eat well and maintain a healthy weight - new class series

Most of us have heard the term, “the obesity epidemic,” and we are affected by it each day. Some of us have had personal weight struggles or have watched a loved one struggle, and all of us have been affected by the food industry’s constant flood of conflicting nutrition and diet information.

This has left us:
  • Frustrated and confused with our bodies
  • Unclear about how to feed ourselves
  • Constantly dieting or giving up on losing weight entirely
  • Overweight, obese, and sick
  • Eating for emotional reasons rather than eating to fuel our bodies
  • Misunderstanding obesity
If we want to be healthy, we must understand the basic science behind nutrition, obesity, and metabolism, and we must connect with our own personal needs. Why you should care about fatty liver disease

The liver is a vital organ necessary for survival.  It performs crucial functions including protein synthesis and detoxification.  When excessive amounts of fat and lipids accumulate in the liver cells, this can lead to liver injury and cause a disease called fatty liver disease.  Fatty liver disease is a serious diagnosis that has become one of the most common causes of abnormal liver function tests in the United States.   Fatty liver disease is also referred to as Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease or NAFLD.  NAFLD is associated with other diseases which influence fat metabolism, such as type 2 diabetes.

Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver, which may mean someone would later need ....

Swedish Physician Named Bariatrician of the Year

Richard Lindquist, M.D. and medical program director of Swedish Weight Loss Services was named Bariatrician of the Year by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) in October.

Linquist, who serves on the ASBP Board of Trustees, accepted the award in Denver during a ceremony attended by more than 500 obesity medicine specialists last month. Bariatrics is the branch of medicine responsible for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of obesity.

Back East ...in Issaquah

I've been spending my time on the East side opening the crowing jewel of Swedish Nutrition Services, Cafe 1910 at Swedish Issaquah.

Unfortunately I have 20 new pounds to show for it!

The Journey

When it seems like it would just be easier to pack it in, remind yourself that your perfect weight is not a destination...it's a journey.

Time's Up

With Swedish Issaquah about to open and new responsibilities at all 5 of our campuses I've been pretty busy so shooting video for the blog has been a challenge to get done. I really want to keep everyone updated so we'll forgo the video for this post.
