SEATTLE, Oct. 23, 2012 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a multistate outbreak of fungal meningitis and joint infections. It appears the outbreak is due to the contamination of an injectable steroid medication called methylprednisolone acetate produced by the New England Compounding Center (NECC). Swedish has never carried the methylprednisolone acetate product produced by NECC.

SEATTLE, Sept. 26, 2012 - Swedish Medical Center and Douglas Backous, M.D., medical director of the Center for Hearing and Skull Base Surgery at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute, will host the world’s first live-instagrammed and live-tweeted cochlear implant (hearing restoration) surgery on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 a.m. Pacific Time (PT).

And thanks to the 50,000+ community members who have made gifts to help improve the health and well-being of our region, I am proud to report that The Campaign for Swedish has reached its initial $100,000,000 fundraising goal.
The Campaign for Swedish began just over five years ago on January 1, 2007 with an ambitious goal of improving the care we provide to patients in some of the most important areas of health care, including women & infants, cardiovascular care, cancer and the neurosciences. Swedish, Washington Global Health Alliance and the Seattle Center’s Next Fifty (celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair) are part of the solution in combating global health issues globally and locally with the Global Health Nexus - Global Health Month. Global Health Month will feature our region’s strengths in combating malaria, diabetes and cancer, and in improving mother and child health and access to safe water.
