Summit Cardiology Joins Swedish Heart Institute -- Swedish strengthens cooperative relationship with Northwest Hospital & Medical Center

SEATTLE, Sept. 24, 2003 -- The physicians at Summit Cardiology, a 10-member specialty cardiology practice with three north Seattle locations, have each signed an employment agreement with Swedish Heart Institute, a broad network of hospitals and physicians providing a seamless system of cardiac care throughout the Puget-Sound region.

Summit is currently affiliated with Northwest Hospital & Medical Center and has offices at Northwest, Stevens Hospital in Edmonds and Swedish Medical Center/Ballard Campus. Established in 1990, the practice provides the complete spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options for a wide range of cardiac conditions. The employment agreements become effective Nov. 1, 2003 and bring to 61 the number of cardiologists now affiliated with Swedish Heart Institute.

"Summit Cardiology shares Swedish's collaborative vision for the future of heart and vascular services in Seattle and we are excited to be joining this progressive regional network of providers," said Gary Weeks, M.D., medical director for Summit Cardiology. "This is great news for our community," said Howard Lewis, M.D., executive director of Swedish Heart Institute. This is a very well-respected group of physicians who are committed to affecting cardiovascular disease, which is still the primary killer of Americans each year."

This affiliation agreement between Swedish Heart Institute and Summit Cardiology also reinforces the relationship between Swedish Medical Center and Northwest Hospital. Summit physicians will remain the preferred providers for cardiology services on the Northwest campus and Swedish will provide cardiology services to Northwest, as needed.

Other Swedish Heart Institute hospital partners include Swedish Medical Centers at First Hill, Ballard and Providence; Stevens Hospital in Edmonds; Highline Community Hospital in Burien; and Valley Medical Center in Renton. Summit Cardiology physicians include Nathaniel Arcega, M.D.; George Frank, M.D.; Margaret Hall, M.D.; Julie Heyn, M.D.; James Pautz, M.D.; William Stanley, M.D.; David Warth, M.D.; Daniel Wilkinson, M.D.; Marko Yakovlevitch, M.D.; and Gary Weeks, M.D.
