SEATTLE, July 16, 2010 – The public is invited to join us for Swedish’s Sleep Medicine Associates first-ever social live, online stream of a patient’s overnight sleep disorder testing experience.
More than 50 million adults in the United States have a chronic sleep disorder. Sleep disorders tend to cause daytime drowsiness, fatigue and distress, which can profoundly affect family life, workplace performance and driving safety. Drowsy driving crashes alone cause at least 1,550 deaths, 71,000 injuries, and $12.5 billion in monetary losses. Fortunately, sleep issues are treatable and curable. Doctors at the Pacific Northwest’s largest sleep medicine facility – Sleep Medicine Associates, affiliated with Swedish – can diagnose and treat anyone’s sleep issue or problem.
To spread awareness about sleep disorders and the importance of healthy sleep habits, a patient’s overnight sleep study will be streamed ‘live‘ via web stream, and a group of ‘Tweeters’ from Swedish will observe the sleep study and provide a play-by-play analysis. The general public will have the opportunity to interact with the sleep center. The purpose of this study will be to confirm a diagnosis or initiate treatment.
