KOMO TV News Anchor Kathi Goertzen Talks about Her Recent Treatment at Swedish for a Non-Cancerous Brain Tumor

SEATTLE, Feb. 17, 2009 -- After an almost five-month-long absence, longtime KOMO Television (Channel 4; ABC) evening news anchor Kathi Goertzen returned to work Feb. 16 after having had surgery Sept. 23, 2008 at Swedish/Cherry Hill to partially remove a non-cancerous brain tumor called meningioma.

To help educate people about this condition -- as well as to thank the many concerned viewers who wished her well -- Goertzen chronicled her experience in a related story that aired during KOMO TV's evening newscasts yesterday.

Her surgeon -- Marc Mayberg, M.D., with the Swedish Neuroscience Institute -- was interviewed as was radiation oncologist Sandra Vermeulen, M.D., with the Swedish Cancer Institute's Seattle CyberKnife Center, who oversaw Goertzen's post-surgery radiation treatment.
