Samuel W. Cullison, M.D.
Medical Director, Family Medicine Education and Director of Swedish Medical Center's Cherry Hill Campus Family Medicine Residency Program
Samuel Cullison, M.D., is medical director for Family Medicine Education, and director for the Swedish/Cherry Hill (formerly Providence) Family Medicine Residency program, which is a three-year program that trains physicians in the fields of family medicine and primary care.
In his role as director for Family Medicine Education, Dr. Cullison is responsible for graduate medical training of Swedish/Cherry Hill's 30 residents and for Swedish's 60 family-medicine residents across the medical center's six affiliated primary-care clinics.
Dr. Cullison joined Providence/Seattle in 1994 and joined Swedish when the two organizations merged in 2000. He is board-certified in family medicine, with additional certifications in geriatrics and addiction medicine. In addition, he is medical director of Evergreen Treatment Center in Seattle, which provides medical, counseling and opiate-substitution services for patients with addictive disorders. He is also a clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Washington.
Dr. Cullison is a graduate of Indiana University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri/Columbia School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in family medicine. His residency in family medicine was with the University of Washington.
Among his other affiliations, Dr. Cullison is a member of the Residency Review Committee for Family Medicine, a nine-member national committee charged with making accreditation decisions about the country's 1,200 family-medicine residency programs. In addition, he is a member of the planning committee for the national meeting of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, as well as a member of the test redesign committee for the exam all family practitioners take every seven years for board certification. He is also on the board of the Washington State Medical Association and currently serves as its immediate past president.
